How should I take cyclizine?

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Cyclizine is usually taken every 6 hours. Follow your doctor’s instructions.

Do not take more or less of this medicine than prescribed or stop taking it even for a short time unless directed by your doctor. Doing so may make the medicine less effective.

To take cyclizine by mouth:

Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water.

Take this medicine with food or milk if it causes an upset stomach.

The suspension may be placed directly into your mouth or mixed with water, milk, baby formula, fruit juice, or ginger ale just before you take it. Do not mix the suspension with any other liquids.

Use only the suspension form of this medicine for children younger than 2 years old. Carefully follow the mixing instructions, and use the suspension within 15 minutes of mixing. Throw away any mixed medicine that you do not use within that time.

Cyclizine doses are based on weight (especially in children and teenagers), and any changes may affect the dose.

Cyclizine can be habit-forming. Never share this medicine with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction.

Keep the medicine in a place where others cannot get to it. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.

The chewable form of this medicine may contain aspartame. If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other condition that requires you to restrict your intake of aspartame (or phenylalanine), you should know that the chewable tablets contain aspartame that forms phenylalanine.

If you use this medicine long-term, you may need frequent medical tests at your doctor’s office.

Cyclizine is not approved for use by anyone younger than 2 years old.

Call your doctor if your vomiting does not stop, if you cannot drink fluids without throwing up, or if you have any signs of dehydration such as: dry mouth, thirst, dark urine, or feeling very tired or hot.
